20 year old embryo = Healthy baby boy

The United States of America is home to a new mother who gave birth to a beautiful baby boy who came from an embryo that had been frozen for 20 years.

Today's fertility treatments are becoming more dynamic and advanced but embryo's have been frozen more several decades now. A couple experiencing infertility problems 20 years ago froze several embryos' some of which they successfully used and began their own family. After having their children they decided to allow their extra embryos be used by other people with fertility problems.

The baby born from the embryo that was conceived 20 years ago holds the record for the oldest frozen embryo. Previous to this, Spain held the next oldest successful embryo which was frozen for 13 years.

The legislators of Britain are considering making the new safe storage period for an embryo 55 years. This is causing some conflict as some people think that this will promote cross generation adoption and cause problems by reintroducing previous generation's genetic disorders into an advanced generation.

The method of freezing embryos began in the 1980's. Basically, a medical professional freezes an embryo (a fertilized egg) or multiple embryos, until it needs to be used. When the time comes the embryo is thawed out and in a relatively non-invasive manner implanted into a woman's uterus.
