There is yet another reason to eat a balanced healthy diet; to help the health of your bones!
Daily there are new articles encouraging a healthy diet fortified with health benefits and still people continue to live in a manner that will slowly shut their body down. Another research has been performed to add to the argument of healthy eating. This study was published online in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition and headed by Lisa Langsetmo from McGill University in Montreal, Canada.
Langsetmo focused her research on the correlation between nutrition and bone density. This the first of its kind to make the specific connection between an individuals nutritional diet and the health of their bones. The study had a group of 3,539 postmenopausal women and 1,649 men over the age of 50. All the participants filled out a detailed survey which helped determine their nutrient density score. A highly nutrient dense diet would contain lots of fruits, vegetables, nuts, whole grains and fish. A diet that lacks nutrition density would consist of potatoes chips, deserts and processed meals.
The study concluded that individuals that consume a nutrient dense diet experienced a reduced chance of suffering from a bone fracture that is not related to a major accident. The study's results are vague and can not state specifically that a healthy diet reduces bone fractures but it has produced some convincing numbers that hopefully will encourage people to change their diets and enjoy all the benefits that come from eating a nutrient rich diet.
