Blood flow increased by Beet Juice

A new study has been performed to show the link between eating beet juice and an increased blood flow in the brain which could encourage graceful aging.

The journal of the Nitric Oxide Society has produced their findings on line from their study regarding the effects of increased blood flow in the brain from the substance beet juice. This is the first of its kind to specifically connect beet juice to blood flow levels. Beet juice is a nitrate-rich product. Other fruits and vegetables such as carrots, celery, cabbage, spinach and some lettuces are also rich in nitrate. When an individual consumes foods that are nitrate-rich the nitrate is transferred into nitrite and it is nitrite that increases blood flow in the brain.

Specifically, the scientists found that the blood flow was increased in the frontal lobes of the brain, the part of the brain that becomes poorly perfused as age increases.

The study took a large sample of people and tested their blood after a 10 hour fast and then after a nitrate high breakfast (that half of then had) and then had their blood tested by a MRI. Those participants who had nitrate high breakfasts had a significant higher blood flow in their brain than those who did not eat a nitrate high breakfast.

Beet juice might not be the tastiest juice but by drinking some daily you could help avoid the saddening affects of old age. Your cognitive can health can improve by a healthy diet. The scientist that worked on this study are hoping to join forces with a juice company to produce a tastier juice so that more people will introduce beet juice into their daily diet.
