Is your cell phone affecting your brain activity?

It seems that everyone has a cell phone these days. What would you do without one? Many people would have a hard time performing their daily routine without the help of their cell phone. Ask yourself "how much time do I spend talking on my cell phone?"

With the need of cell phones in today's society scientists are asking the important questions; Does the cell phone influence brain activity and if so How?

A team of researchers headed by Dr. Nora D. Volkow have been investigating the influence the cell phone has on the brain. The research was published in The Journal of the American Medical Association.

What was discovered is that after only one hour of talking on a cell phone the part of the brain closest to the antenna increases in activity. It is not determined what is directly making this happen but it is apparent that the brain responds to the electromagnetic radiation from the cell phone.

Is this a problem? Research has not yet been carried out to determine what the consequences are if any. The team intends to continue their research and endeavor to find out the long term effects of the electromagnetic radiation might be. They will research the effects after 5 years, after 10 years and so forth.

In the mean time become more aware of how much time you spend on your cell phone. If health concerns are raised due to the electromagnetic radiation then perhaps a few new habits might serve you well. Not only could spending hours and hours on a cell phone be detrimental to your health, it reduces the social interactions, social opportunities and a cell phone has been proven to be one of the most unhygienic items.  Perhaps, talk less on the cell phone and enjoy your surroundings and the people who you interact with.
