Emotional freedom technique (EFT) is based on the Chinese meridian acupressure and acupuncture points and is effective through tapping. There are several stylized techniques but all share the same core points.
Before tapping anywhere you must determine what anxieties, anger, frustration or obsession it is that you desire to overcome. An effective approach to this is by physically writing it down your problem, be specific. Once you have described what it is that you want to change you need to rate it from zero to ten. How much does this bother you? Zero being the lowest and ten being the highest. The best time to perform this process is when you are feeling the intensity of your emotions regarding your chosen situation; for instance if you are trying to change your sugar obsession the best time to use EFT is when you are craving sugary food. In this moment you will write down on a scale of one to ten the level of your craving for sugar.
Now you can begin the tapping process. Holding one hand vertically in front of you you tap with the opposite hand in a "karate chop" manner in between the little finger's knuckle and the side base of the palm. While saying "Even though I am craving sugar I deeply and completely accept myself" repeated three times. The there is a series of tapping different points while thinking/saying what your problem is, in this case a sugar craving. The points are;
- The top of head
- The inside of eyes next to your nose
- The outside of eyes
- Underneath eyes where your check bone is
- Underneath nose
- Chin
- Collar bone
- Underarm
- Each finger on the inside
Some practitioners teach the specific points other encourage people to use all fingers while tapping as they are likely to hit the exact point with one of the fingers. Some practitioner's advice tapping all the points and others skip some. This is an easy technique that can be self taught.
After the first time of tapping all your points re-analyze your craving/problem, what number is it now. If it has only dropped a little bit repeat the whole process until you have it at a manageable level.
